The quality of health care and social welfare – EDUCATION AND PRACTICE (18 -19 May 2023)
The 3rd International Scientific Conference “The Quality of Health Care and Social Welfare - EDUCATION AND PRACTICE” organised by the P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia, was successfully held on 18-19 May 2023. The main theme of this year’s conference was innovative approaches to healthcare and social welfare.
The conference brought together partners of the P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Austria, Portugal and Sweden. Throughout the two-day programme, participants engaged in discussions on digitalisation in medicine and education, creative approaches to healthcare and the study process, and education for sustainable development in the health and social care sectors.
The conference was opened by Iveta Strode, Director of P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia, who highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in research, academia, and professional practice. Welcome addresses were also delivered by representatives of the University of Latvia – Valdis Segliņš, Vice-Rector for Natural Sciences, Technology and Medicine, and Valdis Folkmanis, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. Greetings on behalf of the Jūrmala City Municipality were conveyed by Dace Riņķe, Member of the Jūrmala City Council and Chair of the Social Affairs and Health Committee.
The programme of the first day featured a range of topical issues that encouraged active discussion among participants. Presentations covered the use of artificial intelligence in medicine and medical research, developments in mammography screening, telemedicine and its advancement during the COVID-19 pandemic, digital solutions in the practice of social service providers, progress towards a modern and accessible social services system, the latest technologies in preclinical research, ultrasound methods, palliative care and its development in line with contemporary needs, as well as innovative solutions aimed at reducing injury risks and ensuring high-quality and safe care processes.
On the second day, practical workshops were organised for healthcare and social welfare professionals in five thematic sections:

Quality of Patient Care, Radiographer and Radiologist Assistant Practice, and Breast Cancer Diagnostics;

Innovations in Podiatric Care

Current Issues in Physician Assistant Practice

Interaction of Personal and Professional Resources

Presentation of the ERASMUS+ project DTNET (Digital Technology for Nursing Education and Training)
Conference participants highly appreciated the program and left with valuable practical knowledge and insights.
