DESCRIPTION OF SPECIALTY
A podologist is a healthcare professional with first‑level professional higher education who participates in patient treatment, rehabilitation, education, and health promotion. The podologist performs podological examinations, which include assessing the condition and risk of damage to the foot bone and joint system, blood circulation, sensory function, and soft tissue atrophy. Their work also involves foot care and preventive measures, particularly when working with high‑risk patients.
MAIN PROFESSIONAL TASKS OF A PODOLOGIST
A podologist performs foot examinations, assesses foot health, and diagnoses foot problems in patients of all age groups. Professional foot care is provided, including specialized care for diabetic foot, with methods chosen according to the patient’s specific needs. Podologists also plan and implement educational activities to promote the importance of maintaining healthy nails and skin of the feet.
They work independently, taking initiative and responsibility for the outcomes of their professional activities, while continuously improving their knowledge and skills through lifelong learning and maintaining professional competence.
Podologists also work within multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with other health and social care professionals and institutions. They contribute to educating healthcare specialists, medical support staff, and members of the public on the prevention of foot damage.
GOAL OF THE STUDY PROGRAM
To prepare highly qualified, modernly educated, competent, and competitive specialists in podology, equipped with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the labor market.
PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF STUDY PROGRAM
The study program is implemented through a variety of study forms and teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, practical work carried out both individually and in groups, as well as the analysis of practical problems and situations.
Learning practices take place both in the college’s pre-clinical consulting rooms and in healthcare institutions, where lecturers work with student groups (6–8 students each). During these practices, students strengthen their knowledge, skills, and competencies by working with different patient groups under the guidance of a lecturer.
Students also can participate in various activities offered within the ERASMUS+ program.

CAREER OPORTUNITIES
There is a consistent demand in the labor market for services provided by podologists. The professional activity of a podologist has a direct impact on the health of everyone and contributes to the overall health of society. Podologists may perform their duties independently or as part of a healthcare team in various medical institutions, such as out-patient clinics, health care centers, and private medical practices, as well as in other institutions including social care centers, sports centers, and the Samaritans Association.
