DESCRIPTION OF SPECIALTY
A masseur is a healthcare professional who practices treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation. By applying various massage techniques, the masseur promotes the improvement of the patient’s or client’s health and functional condition, as well as enhances health‑related quality of life and well‑being.
MAIN PROFESSIONAL TASKS OF A MASSEUR
A masseur evaluates the patient’s or client’s health condition, is aware of contraindications, and informs about the effects of massage on the body. In cases where contraindications exist, the masseur explains them clearly to the patient. He or she analyzes the doctor’s referral and the patient’s or client’s health condition and can apply the appropriate massage technique for the specific body area.
The masseur performs massage procedures using techniques and auxiliary methods in the correct direction, sequence, and intensity. During the procedure, the patient’s wellbeing is observed, necessary data regarding the patient and the results of the massage are documented, and guidance is provided on maintaining health after massage sessions.
A masseur can work within a multidisciplinary team, cooperating with other healthcare specialists. In addition, the masseur educates patients, clients, and their relatives about possible massage techniques for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
