P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia from 3 to 6 June 2024 implemented ERASMUS+ BIP project “Foot health - quality of life”.

In project participated students from Vilniaus Kolegija / Higher Education Institution (Lithuania), Kauno Kolegija (Lithuania), Tallinn Health Care College (Estonia), and P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia.

In April and May, project participants took part in online lectures to acquire theoretical knowledge about foot health and nutrition. During the on‑site project week in Jūrmala, various activities were organised to reinforce the acquired knowledge:

03.06.2024 – Students met in person, presented their higher education institutions and study programmes, and participated in masterclasses in Microbiology, Clinical Examination Methods, and Orthonyxia..

04.06.2024 – The day focused on the theme “Podiatry and the Foot”. Students performed practical foot exercises, walked the sensory trail in the Bulduri dunes, and attended a presentation by representatives of SIA “Dinastija” on the importance of choosing appropriate shoe soles and footwear. At the end of the day, students evaluated their own footwear habits.

05.06.2024 – The day was dedicated to nutrition topics and determining body mass index (BMI) using a body composition monitor. In the afternoon, participants visited the GenEra laboratory, where they learned about the laboratory’s fields of work and genetic testing. Nutrition specialist Mg. sc. sal. Ansis Zauers also delivered an engaging lecture on the human microbiome.

06.06.2024 – Participants travelled to Limbaži to visit podiatrist Dace Bērziņa, toured SIA “Limbažu slimnīca”, visited the company “Dabas pieskāriens”, and explored the Silver Museum.

07.06.2024 – The final day of the project, during which all acquired knowledge was summarised in group collages.
